Côte de Nuits-Villages is the great slope's bargain address: an appellation stitched together from the villages at either end of the Côte de Nuits — Fixin and Brochon in the north, Comblanchien, Corgoloin and Prissey in the south — where the limestone is hard enough that Comblanchien quarried it for building stone instead of planting it. That rock shows up in the glass as a firmer, stonier wine than a straight Bourgogne. This one comes from Guillaume Rouget, great-nephew of Henri Jayer, who founded Les Petits Lieux in 2023 with the oenologist Laure Guilloteau and works out of Jayer's restored cellar in Vosne-Romanée. Organic fruit, 100% destemmed, indigenous-yeast fermentation in concrete and stainless, then roughly 18 months in Burgundian barrels with very little new wood — a style built on finesse rather than muscle. 2024 was a small, hard-fought vintage whose best wines are fresh and finely drawn. Worth a few years in the cellar, though an hour in a decanter opens it now.

More about Les Petits Lieux

Les Petits Lieux is an exciting new project from Guillaume Rouget, great-nephew of the iconic Henri Jayer and winemaker at the legendary Domaine Emmanuel Rouget. The wines come from a small collection of carefully chosen sites across Burgundy and are produced in Jayer’s old cellar in Vosne-Romanée.

After Jayer’s passing in 2006, his house and cellar in Vosne sat quiet for nearly twenty years. In 2023, when the chance arose for family members to purchase the property, Guillaume and his partner Laure Guilloteau (formerly longtime enologist at Jean-Claude Boisset) stepped forward. Rather than rebuild or modernize, they chose to lovingly restore the space — breathing new life into the original cement and steel tanks, the old labeling machine, and even some of Jayer’s cellar tools.

Stylistically, the wines show a lighter touch than at Domaine Rouget, with less new oak, shorter élevage for the reds, and a bit longer time in barrel for the whites. They are bright, fresh, and vivacious while still feeling deeply rooted in classical Burgundian tradition.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Duck breast with cherries, coq au vin, roast pork with mustard, or a wedge of well-aged Comté.

Tasting Profile

Darker-toned than the straight Bourgogne: black cherry, iron and crushed rock. Medium-bodied, firm acidity, and a fine gravelly grip of tannin. The finish is stony and persistent.
