Arnot-Roberts: Story-Telling with Pinot Noir
Every year, when the new vintage of Arnot-Roberts Pinot Noirs land, we get excited. Not because they’re flashy or hyped — they’re not — but because they deliver something that has been far too rare in California for far too long: purity, precision, and place.
This year, we’re thrilled to offer the new 2023 vintage of three single-vineyard Pinots that show exactly why Arnot-Roberts has earned a loyal following among local sommeliers, collectors, and even hard-core Burgundy lovers. Same grape. Same hands. Three dramatically different expressions.
Heaven & Earth is always the most ethereal — cool-climate, red-fruited, and laced with herbal and floral nuance. It floats on the palate, delicate and detailed.
Fox Creek, by contrast, comes from a wind-battered site just north of Jenner, where the Pacific shapes everything. This is coastal Pinot at its most expressive — dark-fruited, savory, and mineral-driven, with firm structure and quiet intensity.
Martin Ray brings things back inland, high in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It’s the most structured and age-worthy of the trio — think blood orange, forest floor, and crushed stone, all wrapped around a deep core of mountain fruit.
What ties these wines together is a common philosophy: Arnot-Roberts works with whole clusters, native yeasts, and minimal intervention. They pick early, use little new oak, and let the sites speak.
We drink these wines every year, not just because they’re delicious — though they absolutely are — but because they remind us of what Pinot Noir can be when it’s left to tell the story of its terroir and of its vintage. And, each vintage brings something new.
Quantities are limited, so be sure to grab a few bottles as soon as possible.
Arnot-Roberts Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir Heaven and Earth 2023 - $67.99
"The 2023 Pinot Noir Heaven and Earth Vineyard really plays into a larger-scaled style for Arnot-Roberts. Dark-toned fruit, leather, licorice, grilled herbs, menthol, pine and tobacco are nicely dialed up. The 100% stems are very nicely integrated. Broad and ample in feel, with notable persistence, the 2023 is terrific. 94pts" - Antonio Galloni (Vinous)
Arnot-Roberts Carmel Valley Pinot Noir Fox Creek 2023 - $67.99
"The 2023 Pinot Noir Fox Creek Vineyard is a bold, potent wine. Macerated cherry, spice, orange peel, sage, cedar, new leather and earthy notes fill out the layers. This sturdy yet mid-weight Pinot has a ton of character, even if the tannins are a bit burly. 94pts" - Antonio Galloni (Vinous)
Arnot-Roberts Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir Peter Martin Ray 2023 - $89.99
"The 2023 Pinot Noir Peter Martin Ray Vineyard is delicate, silky and understated. Floral-inflected red-toned fruit, orange peel, cinnamon and spice are some of the many notes that emerge from the glass. The 2023 is very pretty and nuanced. Here, too, the 100% stems are impeccably balanced. 93pts" - Antonio Galloni (Vinous)
