Antonio Galloni

"The 2021 Barbaresco Albesani is a bold, savory wine endowed with notable energy and structure. Chalk, mint, white pepper, crushed rocks and orange peel all emerge with some coaxing as the 2021 starts to show some of the inner sweetness that is such a signature of this site. Submerged cap maceration at the end of fermentation yielded an especially structured, backward Barbaresco." —Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

"The Cantina del Pino 2021 Barbaresco Albesani has an especially floral bouquet with dried rose petal and a savory touch of redwood or cedar. This wine carries a high 15% alcohol content, and although it remains relatively contained within the mid-weight fiber of the wine, it does stand out. It spends 24 months in botte grande and 18 months in bottle in order to capture the elegance of the fruit. This wine will hit the market in September 2025, with a release of 3,000 bottles." —Monica Larner

Wine Enthusiast

"This Barbaresco balances accessibility with sophistication. Red cherries and wild strawberries mingle with dried roses and forest herbs, while hints of leather and earth add savory depth. Fine tannins provide subtle grip, while a tart raspberry finish adds freshness and tension. It's approachable now but has the structure and balance to evolve beautifully in the cellar." —Jeff Porter

Kerin O'Keefe

"Toasted hazelnut, forest floor and peppercorn aromas carry over to the full-bodied, rather austere palate along with dried cherry and crushed mint. A salty note caps off the finish while taut, tightly knit and close-grained tannins provide support. Drink 2027–2033." —Kerin O'Keefe

More about Cantina del Pino

Renato Vacca was born and raised in Barbaresco. His family’s history there goes back generations. The estate was originally purchased by Renato's great-grandfather in the 1920’s from the son of Domizio Cavazza, the father of Barbaresco. For most of its history the family estate sold the majority of their grapes to Produttori del Barbaresco, the local cooperative where Renato's father, Adriano was a founding member. In 1987, Renato convinced his father to start producing their own wines.

All that personal and generational knowledge made Renato one of the most experienced growers in Barbaresco and he knew its sites and soils intimately. Vineyards at Cantina del Pino are lovingly tended to without the use of harsh chemicals and synthetic fertilizers. In the winery, Renato guided his wines with a soft touch and while a traditionalist in many respects he was not afraid to put his own stamp, such as the inclusion of a small percentage of whole clusters. The wines are powerful and intense yet elegant and supremely refined.

Renato’s wife Franca and his father Adriano, who still directs viticulture at the estate, along with his cousin Aldo Vacca at Produttori are now continuing the work that Renato began.
