Rauzan-Gassies is a Second Growth that makes classical, terroir-expressive Margaux that historically flew under the radar -- mostly because their old-school style was out of synch with the more modern, lush style that was being promoted by Robert Parker. Gassies does not make obvious wine. Instead, the wines are lithe and well-balanced, and they need at least a decade of cellaring before they drink well. Their vines are planted on some of the most noble terroir in the entire Médoc, a large bed of gravel over limestone shared with the likes of Palmer and (Château) Margaux.
