David and Diana Lett, the founders of Eyrie Vineyards, are among the pioneers of Oregon wine, and have been instrumental in putting Oregon Pinot Noir on the map. After graduating from UC Davis, David went to Oregon with 3,000 cuttings and a dream to find the perfect vineyard site.
He settled in the Dundee Hills, established a winery in nearby McMinnville, and produced his first vintage in 1970. Five years later his wines were competing on the world stage among some of the best that Burgundy had to offer.
From the beginning, their vineyards have never seen herbicides, pesticides, or irrigation, and are today certified organic. In 2005 Jason Lett, David and Dianaโs son, took over the reigns in the winery, and has moved to natural-yeast fermentations.
