Roulot is the house that made Meursault's named village vineyards worth seeking out one at a time, and Les Luchets is one of the family's signature sites. It sits higher up on Meursault's slope, on clay and limestone, and the domaine farms just 1.03 hectares of it. That's a small amount of wine from a name people already queue for. The idea of keeping each parcel separate started with Guy Roulot, who vinified and bottled his plots individually. That was a big step for a family that a generation earlier was known for Burgundian brandy and eau de vie, not wine. Jean-Marc Roulot carries that approach on today with certified organic farming. The label says village Meursault, but the thinking behind it is single-vineyard, and that's the reason to buy this bottle.

More about

The name Roulot is now a synonym for the very best wine that the village of Meursault can offer. It is rather remarkable when you consider that just 2 generations back the Roulot's were known as producers of Burgundian brandy and eau de vie. But Guy Roulot began leveraging the family's distilling success to purchase small plots of vines in Meursault and by the 1970's was known as a pioneer for producing top quality chardonnay from distinct parcels or ""lieu-dits"".

When Guy passed away unexpectedly in the early '80's his son Jean-Marc was pursuing acting in Paris. In 1989 he returned to take on the reigns of the small Domaine and in the following decades built on his father's success so well that the wines are now extremely hard to acquire and to afford for most of us.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Pan-seared sea scallops, Dover sole with brown butter and capers, roast chicken with tarragon cream, or a wedge of aged Comté.

Tasting Profile

Expect Roulot's precise, mineral take on Meursault: lemon, white peach and hazelnut, with a chalky, stony edge from the clay and limestone of this higher-slope site. It's typically medium-bodied and taut rather than buttery, with bright acidity carrying through to a long, saline finish. Think Meursault's classic texture with some of the cut of good Chablis.
