Domaine Roulot Bourgogne Blanc 2024

Roulot is one of the few Burgundy domaines whose wines sell out before they're even bottled, and the Bourgogne Blanc is the easiest way into that cellar. It's no anonymous regional blend: Roulot sources this cuvée roughly half from Puligny-Montrachet and half from Meursault, from seven lieux-dits including Durots, Dressoles, Herbeux and Grandes Coutures, with vines averaging about 35 years old. (Think about what a label that says "Meursault" or "Puligny" usually costs.) The domaine doesn't cut corners on its entry-level wine either. It is fined with only tiny amounts of casein and bentonite and very lightly filtered before bottling. The farming is certified organic, and Jean-Marc Roulot's wines carry the same precision and energy as the man himself. Don't wait on it, because bottles from this house don't stay on shelves for long.

More about

The name Roulot is now a synonym for the very best wine that the village of Meursault can offer. It is rather remarkable when you consider that just 2 generations back the Roulot's were known as producers of Burgundian brandy and eau de vie. But Guy Roulot began leveraging the family's distilling success to purchase small plots of vines in Meursault and by the 1970's was known as a pioneer for producing top quality chardonnay from distinct parcels or ""lieu-dits"".

When Guy passed away unexpectedly in the early '80's his son Jean-Marc was pursuing acting in Paris. In 1989 he returned to take on the reigns of the small Domaine and in the following decades built on his father's success so well that the wines are now extremely hard to acquire and to afford for most of us.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken with tarragon butter; seared scallops with brown butter; gougères; trout amandine; pasta with lemon, crab and chives; Comté or aged Gruyère.

Tasting Profile

Expect a taut, precise white Burgundy in the Roulot house style: lemon, green apple and white flowers over a chalky, stony minerality. It's medium-bodied, with bright, mouthwatering acidity that gives it more cut than richness, and it finishes dry, clean and slightly salty. Think of it as a leaner, more mineral cousin of village Meursault.
