Granville Eola Amity Hills Chardonnay Koosah Vineyard 2024

At 800 to 1,100 feet, Koosah is about as high as Chardonnay grows in the Eola-Amity Hills -- and Granville takes its fruit from Blocks 5 and 7, the steepest, most wind-lashed slopes at the very top. That combination of altitude, exposure and cold Pacific air is a recipe for tension: small berries, slow ripening, and acidity that doesn't quit. The site has been farmed biodynamically since it was planted in 2016, and Jackson Holstein keeps the cellar work simple -- native fermentation in French oak, partial malolactic, unfined and unfiltered. Worth knowing that Resonance, Louis Jadot's Oregon estate, now owns the vineyard; Granville still sources select blocks, and the bottling stays small. This is Oregon Chardonnay with an alpine streak.

More about Granville

Granville Wine Co. is the project of Jackson and Ayala Holstein, a tribute to Jackson's father, a viticulturist whose Holstein Vineyard in Oregon's Dundee Hills they lease and make wine from. Alongside the home vineyard, they work with like-minded growers on sites such as Spirit Hill, a vineyard long prized by Argyle. Pinot Noir is the heart of the range, from single vineyards to the Basalt Willamette Valley bottling, with Chardonnay alongside. Small-lot, family-rooted Oregon wine made with modern precision.
