Explore the captivating story and exquisite taste of this remarkable varietal!
For much of the 20th century, the majority of its plantings were hidden behind the Iron Curtain and in Yugoslavia, while other regions were recovering from two World Wars and the shared aftermath of phylloxera. Only relatively recently have these wines begun to become more widely available, making this the perfect time to delve into this hidden gem and discover its unique flavors and rich history.
Known by many names depending on the region—Kékfrankos in Hungary, Blaufränkisch in Austria, Lemberger in Germany, Frankonia in Italy, Modra Frankinja in Slovenia, and Frankovka in Croatia, the Czech Republic, and Serbia—this grape transcends borders, showcasing its unique characteristics in every bottle. Despite the geopolitical complexities, Blaufränkisch thrives, revealing its thick skins, late-ripening nature, high acidity, tannins, spice, aromatics, and longevity.
Despite its remarkable qualities, Blaufränkisch remains relatively unknown, offering both a rewarding exploration and outstanding value. During this seminar, you’ll have the chance to taste wines from distinct regions in Central Europe, providing a comprehensive experience of this grape’s versatility and depth.
