Back in the '70s, Adam Tolmach began his career with nothing but a love of wine and a UC Davis degree, after working for one of the bigger Santa Barbara operations. Disenchanted with being a pawn in another man’s game, he and fellow employee Jim Clendenen established the immediately successful Au Bon Climat winery.
The duo eventually parted ways, and Adam established The Ojai Vineyard. He has dedicated the last 30 years to honing his understanding of his different sites, refining techniques in farming, and peeling back the layers of artifice in the cellar, in a constant pursuit of balance and terroir expression. The wines just get better vintage after vintage, and no other winery offers a more nuanced study of the varied microcosms that make up Santa Barbara.
