The Pearl Morissette wines are made by vigneron François Morissette on Canada’s Niagara Peninsula, the strip of land between two Great Lakes (Erie and Ontario) that connects Canada to New York State. It’s a region best known for producing ice wine, but Morissette, the region’s most exciting winemaker, does not produce any.
Instead, François makes light-bodied, elegant wines that are both unfettered and precise, stylistically akin to old-world wine regions like the Jura and Burgundy. Originally a sommelier, he learned winemaking by working in some of Burgundy's greatest domaines: Frederic Mugnier, Roulot, and Henri Gouges.
