The first time we tasted Pierre Girardin's wines, we were immediately taken with the style: taut and focused, with ultra-fine reduction and an unmistakable textural lift. We were shocked to learn that Pierre was only in his 20s — these wines felt so confident and assured, like they came from the cellar of an established master, not some kid just getting his start in the Burgundy game.
Well, Pierre is not just "some kid". He’s the 13th generation of his family to farm grapes and make wine in Burgundy. His father, Vincent, gained international fame in the mid-'90s making wines in the rich, powerful style so popular at the time. Over the years, he amassed an insane collection of the best 1er and Grand Cru terroirs. As prices for Burgundy vineyards skyrocketed, in 2011, he made the tough decision to sell the family domaine.
However, he was prescient enough to retain 4.5 hectares for his son to work. With this small amount of land (and grape contracts with family friends), Domaine Pierre Girardin was born in 2017.
A brand-new, modern cellar with a state-of-the-art press and custom-spec François Frères barrels certainly caught the attention of his neighbors, and Pierre was under the microscope from the jump. Now on his 5th vintage, Pierre has emerged as one of the most talented young winemakers in Burgundy. Collectors have taken notice — his top wines have become extremely sought after.
