Jose Luis Mateo and his Quinta da Muradella, are single handedly responsible for the codification and ascent of Monterrei, bringing it from an area best known for bulk production to one of the epicenters of fine wine production in Galicia. With Candea, a side project that has taken on a life of its own, Jose Luis strives to make wines that are pure representation of Monterrei, but at an affordable price. As terroir driven as anything he makes, he crafts this from all indigenous varieties from small, old vine plots located throughout the river valley Monterrei sits in. His minimalist approach showcases this unique terroir, highlighting the freshness and minerality of Monterrei.
