Tuesday, June 23rd | 5:00–7:30 PM
Join us as Flatiron Wines & Spirits welcomes seven of Austria and Germany's most compelling producers—and the winemakers (and distiller) themselves—for a walk-around tasting you won't find anywhere else. Hosted alongside Skurnik Wines & Spirits, whose legendary German and Austrian portfolio set the standard for these regions in America, this is a rare chance to taste across the Mosel, Rheingau, and the great wine country of Austria with the very people who farm the vines and craft the wines.
From crystalline, slate-grown Riesling to peppery Grüner Veltliner, profound Slovenian-border Sauvignon Blanc, and some of the finest eaux-de-vie in the world, the evening offers a guided tour through what these regions do best. Each producer will pour a personal selection of their wines—and in one delicious exception, a flight of spirits—with plenty of time to taste, ask questions, and discover your next cellar staple.
Event Highlights:
- Walk-around tasting with seven producers, each pouring a handpicked selection of wines (or eaux-de-vie)
- The winemakers and distiller themselves on hand to guide you through their lineups
- Riesling, Grüner Veltliner, Sauvignon Blanc, and a showcase of Austrian eaux-de-vie
- Special event-only discounts
- Space to taste, mingle, and explore—store closes early for the event
The Producers:
Schloss Lieser — Thomas Haag (Mosel, Germany) Son of the legendary Wilhelm Haag of Fritz Haag, Thomas rescued the once-dilapidated Schloss Lieser and rebuilt it into one of the Mosel's most revered Riesling estates. Expect precise, slate-driven wines from grand cru sites including Niederberg Helden, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and the famed Bernkasteler Doctor.
Selbach-Oster — Sebastian Selbach (Mosel, Germany) The Selbach family has worked the steep slate of Zeltingen for roughly four centuries. Sebastian, the next generation, pours classic middle-Mosel Riesling from ancient ungrafted vines—and continues the family's stewardship of the tiny Merkelbach estate in Ürzig, whose vineyards they've farmed since 2020 to keep that beloved old name alive.
Spreitzer — Andreas Spreitzer (Rheingau, Germany) From an estate founded in 1641 in Oestrich-Winkel, brothers Andreas and Bernd Spreitzer craft some of the Rheingau's most vibrant, mineral Rieslings—balancing delicacy and concentration with ambient-yeast fermentations and aging in old wooden casks.
Reisetbauer — Hansi Reisetbauer (Upper Austria) A flavorful change of pace: Reisetbauer is widely considered one of the world's greatest distillers. From the family's organic orchards near Linz come breathtakingly pure fruit eaux-de-vie—it can take more than 20 pounds of fruit for a single bottle—alongside acclaimed gin and estate-grown single malt whisky. Hansi represents the next generation at the still.
Domaine Ciringa — Stefan Tement (Štajerska, Slovenia) The Tement family of Südsteiermark fame planted this single Slovenian vineyard—Ciringa, the local name for their famed Zieregg cru—on pure, 60-million-year-old limestone reef, where the Austrian-Slovenian border runs straight through the rows. The result is taut, profound, age-worthy Sauvignon Blanc.
Setzer — Hans Setzer (Weinviertel, Austria) Founded in 1705 in the village of Hohenwarth, Setzer is a Grüner Veltliner specialist's specialist—densely planted old vines, spontaneous fermentation, and the peppery, spicy, endlessly drinkable style that made the Weinviertel famous.
Diwald — Martin Diwald (Wagram, Austria) One of Austria's true organic pioneers—farming organically since the 1970s—Diwald works the deep loess of the Wagram. Martin's Grüners and Rieslings are linear, mineral, and built to age: minimalist winemaking from one of the country's most quietly serious addresses.
