Saumur-Champigny is Cabernet Franc's home ground, and this is Arnaud Lambert's classic take on it: three parcels of roughly 45-year-old vines near Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg, on gentle west-facing slopes at about 70 meters. Under the vines is around 80 centimeters of clay-and-sand topsoil over white tuffeau limestone, enough depth to give the wine flesh where the thinner Breze sites give cut. Lambert farms organically across more than 40 hectares in Saumur and keeps oak out of his reds entirely: this is 100% Cabernet Franc raised in tank, racked two or three times, with no sulfur until bottling. He bottles in two passes, in April and in June, to catch each lot at the right moment. 2023 in Anjou-Saumur swung from drought to a soaking late September, which made careful picking the difference between good and ordinary.

If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

Arnaud Lambert has quietly become a leading vigneron in the iconic wine region of Saumur-Champigny. His home, many of his vineyards, and the focus of much of his passion is the tiny hamlet of Brézè (so tiny that it was recently combined with 2 nearby villages to make a single commune), a few miles south of Saumur. The distinct limestone subsoils here have for centuries been known for producing exquisite wines from the local Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc varieties.

Indeed, some 500 years ago the rich, textured Chenins of Chateau de Brezé were regarded as equal in quality to those of Chateau d’Yquem. More recently the wine was made famous by the domain of Clos Rougeard, considered now to be among the finest wines in the Loire and France in general.

Now under new ownership, Rougards prices continue to skyrocket. Neighbors Guiberteau and Collier wines have risen in status (and their prices as well) and are becoming cult producers in their own right. But all of these estates have a small parcel or two on the hill of Brézè. Arnaud has 8 different vineyards there alone to work with, not to mention the neighboring village of Saint-Cyr-En-Bourg.

This embarrassment of riches when it comes to top vineyards is perhaps why Lambert hasn't reached cult status: there isn't just a single great wine from him to focus on, there are many! Whatever the reason though, it means that his prices remain a notch or two or three below those of his famous neighbors name dropped above.
