Auguste Clape Saint-Peray Blanc 2023

$9999

The 2023 vintage carries forward the pioneering legacy of Auguste Clape through his son and grandson, blending 90% Marsanne with 10% Roussanne from steep granite and limestone slopes. Honeysuckle, lime flower, and stone fruit emerge with delicious freshness and naturalistic acidity, while peach blossom and floral notes build to a supple, seamless finish. A testament to elegant Northern Rhône white winemaking.

Robert Parker

92 points

"A blend of 90% Marsanne and 10% Roussanne from south-facing vines planted on granite soils, the 2023 Saint-Péray has a completely seductive bouquet of white flowers, honeysuckle, anise and spices. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive with a round, fleshy profile, it's long and ethereal, concluding with a delicate, perfumed finish. Bottled just after the 2024 harvest, it was matured in 10-year-old foudres, concrete tanks and one new demi-muid (600-liter barrel). The wine had malolactic fermentation." —Yohan Castaing

Decanter

93 points

"Honeysuckle and lime flower, with lovely naturalistic acidity. Not the most concentrated vintage of this cuvée, but it's nonetheless lovely in 2023 due to its delicious freshness and drinkability. Drink 2025-2030." —Matt Walls

More about Auguste Clape

For lovers of the Northern Rhone Auguste Clape needs zero introduction. Even those less familiar with the slopes along the river where Syrah reigns supreme have often heard the name. Clape is that important.

He almost single-handedly brought his home village of Cornas out of the old, négociant-centered model and into the estate-focused 21st Century. A former mayor of Cornas, his name is now synonymous with the best of what this village has to offer.

August sadly passed in 2018 after nearly fifty years of winemaking, leaving the iconic estate in the hands of his son and grandson.
