Pinotage has a reputation problem, too often big, jammy, and overworked, and Beaumont's 'Jackals River' bottling is the quiet rebuttal. In the cool, sea-influenced hills of Bot River, the Beaumont family works old vines planted back in 1974, fermenting in open concrete and punching down gently so the wine never turns heavy-handed. The result is a mid-weight, focused South African red that shows what its signature grape can do when someone actually restrains it. Dark-fruited and savory, with firm but balanced tannins, this is Pinotage worth reconsidering.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

"This wine enjoys a three-decade tradition at Beaumont Family Wines. The 2022 Bot River Jackals River Pinotage follows the house style, which aims for a focused, mid-weight style. It is fermented in open concrete vats with two punch-downs per day. The idea is not to overwork the cap. A small portion of new oak is used over 14 months of aging. The wine shows bright fruit, plum and a distant note of wild rose. You might also recognize something succulent like meat on the grill, but all the aromas are held back with balanced restraint. It finishes with a hint of tart fruit. The wine is made with old vines planted in 1974 with some fruit from plantings made in 2018. This is a 16,290-bottle release. " —Monica Larner
