Bitburger calls this the most-poured beer in Germany, and it earns the title as a clean, crisp, properly bitter pils that works for a backyard grill or a Tuesday night. The hops are the brewery's own Siegelhopfen ("seal hops"), grown in two certified areas: the Hallertau in Bavaria and, closer to home, Holsthum near Bitburg, where hop farmer Andreas Dick and his family grow them. The water gets the same attention. It's drawn from wells about 300 metres deep in the Eifel mountains, and the rock layers above filter it on the way down. It's bottom-fermented and kept at a sensible 4.8%. Some trivia for your next round: the brewery spent two years in court against breweries in Pilsen before it won the right to call its beer "Pils" at all. Seven generations of the same family later, it's still the simple, honest pleasure that kind of fight was about.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Bratwurst with grainy mustard and sauerkraut; soft pretzels with Obatzda cheese spread; pork schnitzel with lemon; fish and chips; spicy Thai larb or chicken wings.

Tasting Profile

Expect the classic German pils profile: bright gold and lightly sparkling, with a clean, gently fruity nose and grassy, spicy hop aromas. A touch of soft malt sweetness gives way to a firm, distinctly bitter backbone, and the finish is crisp, clean and refreshing. Think of an everyday lager, but crisper and more hop-driven.
