A bone-dry Oregon Riesling with the acid numbers of a German Kabinett and none of the sweetness — 8.74 g/L total acidity, pH 2.93, a scant 5.41 g/L of residual sugar, all at 12.5% alcohol. That combination is why Ara tastes chiseled rather than merely tart: the tiny bit of sugar left behind is there to cushion the acid, not to sweeten the wine. Ara is one of the very first Riesling labels Jimi Brooks created after founding the winery in 1998, named for a constellation — he was deep into mythology and astrology in those early years, and the names stuck. Jimi died suddenly in 2004, and the estate has been carried forward since by his son Pascal, who owns it, his sister Janie Brooks Heuck, who leads it, and his old friend Chris Williams, who still makes wine here alongside winemaker Claire Jarreau. Fermentation was kept cool, between 50 and 70°F, and the wine was bottled in April 2024 — quick, clean work that keeps the fruit and the minerality in the foreground. If you've written off American Riesling, this is the bottle that argues the other way.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.
