Caroline Morey Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumees 2023 [NET]

$24999

Les Chaumees sits at the top of Chassagne, on the high, stony, limestone-rich slopes near the village's old quarry. Where Cailleret is all linear precision, Chaumees tends to wear its aromatics on its sleeve — more openly floral and perfumed, with anise, white blossom, and orchard fruit out front. Caroline Morey, who launched her own label in 2014 after her father's retirement, farms 45+ year-old vines here and uses the same patient approach as her husband Pierre-Yves Colin: 350L barrels, indigenous yeasts, no battonage, unfined and unfiltered. The result is succulent and round but tension-filled, with palate-staining intensity and a great line of acidity.

"From 40+ year old vines. A more floral-infused nose speaks mostly of white-fleshed fruit, lemon-lime and a hint of the exotic. The caressing, plump and seductively textured medium weight flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract that also buffers the citrus-tinged acidity shaping the bone-dry, youthfully austere and even more persistent finale. This is excellent and definitely worth your interest."

More about Caroline Morey

The Morey family name is one of the more infamous in Burgundy, with a long and expansive history. Caroline Morey is the daughter of the well-known Jean-Marc Morey, and started her own domaine after Jean-Marc's retirement in 2014. Her holdings started out with just 2.4 hectares of vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay, and Hautes Côtes de Beaune, but has since expanded to seven prime hectares.
