Cascina Feipu dei Massaretti Rossese di Albenga 2025

$2799

Rossese is Liguria's red, and there's not much of it. Most of what escapes the region is Rossese di Dolceacqua, from up near the French border, but this is a different grape entirely: Rossese di Albenga, a distinct local variety grown further east, where Cascina Feipu dei Massaretti farms organically in the valley behind the coast. It's a light red in the best sense: pale, perfumed, low in tannin, built for drinking rather than contemplating. Chill it down twenty minutes and it does everything a summer red should do. The Ligurians have been keeping this to themselves for a long time, largely by drinking it all before anyone else could get to it.

More about Cascina Feipu dei Massaretti

The Cascina dei Massaretti property was a small farm with mostly fruit trees and vegetables when Pippo Parodi inherited it from his father. He became convinced that the land was well suited to vines and began planting the local Pigato and of course Rossese in the early 1960s.

Today it is Pippo’s daughters Ivana and Brunella, along with son in law Mirco who are managing the estate. They are careful farmers and vineyard managers and they are very proud of their small production, hand crafted wines. The Rossese is made traditionally with short maceration of 8-10 days and ages in tanks until the following spring when it is bottled.
