Colterenzio Chardonnay Altkirch 2024

$2199

A step up the Colterenzio Chardonnay ladder, Altkirch comes from cooler, higher-altitude parcels in the Appiano hills, where gravelly, calcareous soils and big day-to-night temperature swings give the wine its tension and lift. Colterenzio is one of Alto Adige's most respected co-ops, founded in 1960 and now over 300 grower families strong, and they channel that scale into a remarkably precise, transparent style. Fermented in stainless steel and aged on fine lees, this is a Chardonnay built on freshness rather than oak: pale gold, floral, with orchard and exotic fruit and that classic Alto Adige snap of acidity. Easy to drink, easy to love, and a real value in cool-climate Italian Chardonnay.

"Alto Adige shows its strengths in every glass. Here crisp orchard fruits gain extra zip from mountain altitudes while the palate lets salty minerals and citrus notes create pure refreshment. A wine that shows why this region has mastered the art of keeping things cool and crisp." —Jeff Porter

More about Colterenzio

Colterenzio is a high quality, relatively new co-op in Alto-Adige. We say “new” because it was started in 1960, and 60 years is young in this ancient wine producing region that has always been a moving border between Italian and German speaking people. The founders began this smaller co-op in order to get out from under the constraints of the huge, merchant based industrial co-ops that dominated at the time.
