Contino Rioja Reserva 2018

When CVNE launched Contino in the 1970s, as the Franco era wound down, it was a genuine gamble: a single-estate, single-vineyard Rioja at a time when the region's identity was built on blending across many sites. It became one of Spain's great names. For decades, longtime winemaker Jesus Madrazo proved that Rioja's terroir could deliver fresh fruit and real power without giving up the region's signature balance and elegance. This Reserva is Tempranillo-led, grown on the estate's gravelly slopes above the Ebro and aged patiently in oak — classic, complete, and worth a little time in the cellar.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

"I tasted two vintages of the estate red that represents the blend and the character of the place. The 2018 Reserva comes from a cooler year and is a blend of 86% Tempranillo, 6% Mazuelo, 6% Graciano and 2% Garnacha with 14.12% alcohol and a pH of 3.48. The grapes ripened thoroughly and the wine is tasty but has a vibrant palate with freshness and depth. It has a classical nose and is complex and spicy with an earthy touch, a little developed and with fine-grained tannins. Very tasty. It spent 18 months in oak barrels, 90% of them French and 10% American; they are reducing the amount of American oak in this wine." —Robert Parker
