Domaine Bellegarde Jurancon Sec Selection 2023

Petit Manseng vinified bone dry and raised for a year in terracotta amphorae — a deliberate provocation in a region that normally saves this grape for its sweet wines. Petit Manseng has thick skins and tiny berries and is traditionally left hanging into late autumn for Jurançon moelleux; taken dry, as it is here with about ten percent Gros Manseng alongside, it gives a white with unusual weight and grip, and the clay vessels build texture without any of the vanilla a barrel would add. Domaine Bellegarde sits in the Pyrenean foothills outside Monein, twenty kilometers west of Pau, where Pascal Labasse trained at Château la Tour Blanche in Sauternes before taking over the family estate in 1985; his son Maxime joined him in 2019. The estate is planted entirely to the indigenous white varieties of the southwest, on clay and loam soils, some parcels scattered with the same round galets you find in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. A serious dry white from an appellation most people only know for its sweet bottles.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

Tasting Profile

Citrus, white peach and pear with fresh almond and a fine mineral note. Medium-bodied and dry, with the amphora lending a gentle textural grip, balanced acidity and a long, refreshing finish.
