Domaine de l'Arlot Hautes Cotes de Nuits Blanc Le Mont 2024 [NET]

Domaine de l'Arlot is a Pinot Noir house through and through, with only about 5% of its vines in Chardonnay, so a white from them is worth noticing. This one grows on the hill directly above the domaine's famous Clos des Forêts Saint Georges. Le Mont is a single one-hectare plot at 400 metres above the village of Premeaux-Prissey. It faces south-east, and its Chardonnay covers two-thirds of it in shallow, stony soil made up of sand, clay and silt. The vines are young, but 2024 kept the crop tiny: a cool, damp flowering cost clusters, and the yield came in at just 14 hl/ha. Géraldine Godot pressed whole bunches and fermented them with native yeasts in steel. She then gave the wine nine months in French oak (25% new) with no lees stirring, which keeps it bright and tangy rather than buttery. The domaine says the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits is "on a roll," and this is a good way to see why: a top Nuits-Saint-Georges address at a humbler appellation, made to drink now.

"The 2024 Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Le Mont Blanc has already been bottled. This needed a little time to settle but eventually offers smoky, nutty scents that oddly reminded me of white Bordeaux! The palate is fresh and crisp, a fine bead of acidity with tangy tangerine and orange rind leading to a simple but energetic finish. Drink this over the next two or three years." —Neal Martin

More about Domaine de l'Arlot

For several decades now the Domaine de L'Arlot has been following its own path to creating wines that reflect both the subtleties of diverse terroirs and a distinct "house style" that is unique in Burgundy. The Domaine is located in Premeaux, on the southernmost edge of the Cotes-de-Nuits where Nuits-St-Georges tends to resemble Chambolle in elegance and perfume.

In 2015 the very talented Geraldine Godot was given full control of the domaine. She is committed to continuing the traditions of the house including biodynamic farming and a high percentage of whole clusters during fermentation. However she is making small changes, using less extraction and less new oak to achieve even more balance and grace.

The heart of the Domaine's holdings are two 1er Cru monopoles in Nuits-Saints-Georges: Clos de L'Arlot and Clos des Forets. These vineyards produce some of the most elegant wines in Nuits and are perfect examples of the finesse and purity of terroir that L'Arlot achieves.

They also have small parcels of vines in two of the top vineyards in Vosne-Romanée: Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Suchots. These blue chip wines are complimented by a range of excellent values from the Haut-Cotes and other sites surrounding Nuits.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Poached salmon with pasta and crème fraîche; roast chicken in a morel cream sauce; trout with beurre blanc; warm goat cheese drizzled with honey; a cheese board of Chaource and young Comté.

Tasting Profile

Expect the bright, high-altitude style of Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Chardonnay: lemon and white peach, a touch of hazelnut and white flowers like acacia, over a stony, mineral edge. Light to medium-bodied and tangy rather than buttery, with a light touch of oak, crisp acidity and a clean, dry finish. Think of a fresher, leaner take on classic white Burgundy.
