Domaine de Terrebrune Bandol Rose 2024

$3599

Terrebrune is the Bandol benchmark you reach for when you want the real thing. The Delille family farms limestone-clay soils on a south-facing amphitheater above the Mediterranean, and unlike the candy-pink rosés that dominate the category, this is a Mourvèdre-led wine built to age. The color is pale onion-skin, the texture is saline and grippy, and the finish goes on for ages. Drink it now with food, or stash a bottle for next summer and watch it deepen. A true vin gastronomique.

Antonio Galloni

"Deep salmon pink in the glass, the 2024 Bandol Rosé is a serious wine. Beguilingly tropical in character and absolutely jam-packed with flavor, it coats every nook and cranny of the mouth with intense flavors of pineapple, kiwi, summer melon and blood orange. A wine of textural heft without excess weight, the 2024 confidently marches through the finish with a whisper of supportive acidity. Yet another win in the Bandol column in 2024." —Billy Norris

Robert Parker

"The rosé from this estate is often among my favorites, and the 2024 Bandol Rosé is no exception. Unfurling in the glass with a lively, vibrant bouquet of pomegranate, spices, crushed stones, curry leaf and lime, it is concentrated, suave and glossy, bringing both finesse and charm to the mid-palate. It culminates in a long, saline finish, offering a sense of harmony and precision. Generous yet balanced, this is a Bandol Rosé with the intensity and structure to evolve gracefully over the coming years. This is a blend of 60% Mourvèdre, 20% Grenache Noir and 20% Cinsault." —Yohan Castaing

"Clementines and raspberries and then a wonderful lift of lusty, dusty terracotta spices. Purple richness and body, and the wine feels dense and broad although laden with lavender fragrance. Mineral dusty finish giving the wine this moreish chewiness and textured, drawn-out length." —Tamlyn Currin

More about Domaine de Terrebrune

Domaine de Terrebrune was founded in the 1960s by a Parisian ex-sommelier (even the French dream of running away to Provence). Georges Delille spent over a decade modifying the estate to his liking, and with help from Domaine Tempier’s Lucien Peyraud, replanted the vines to mostly Mourvèdre, a notoriously finicky grape, yet one whose unique structure and flavor profile make it worth the effort. The farming is organic, the soils are fertile and mineral-rich, and the sea breezes keep away mildew and pests.

We’re all familiar with Provençal rosés by now, but Bandol is a special place with unique potential for longevity. The climate conditions (tempered by cooling limestone soils and maritime winds) and the dominant grape variety (Mourvèdre and its firm tannins) play a part, as do the talented winemakers who call the region home.
