The term "dynasty" is often used when discussing the Gros Family because of the enormous impact they've had on the recent history of winemaking in Burgundy. The Domaine Gros dates to the early 1800's, but after Jean Gros retired in the early 1990's it was split into 4 estates.

Jean's son Michel inherited the entirety of the Monopole 1er Cru vineyard "Clos Reas" and a few other parcels and has been steadily acquiring other vineyards. Today he farms around 18 hectares in Vosne-Romanรฉe and the surrounding villages.

Michel is both an innovator and a sharp student of tradition. He isn't afraid to experiment a little in the cellar but his focus is always on producing wines of terroir and history. His style emphasizes rich fruit and elegance in balance with the power and longevity of Vosne and Nuits-St-Georges.

With 40 years of experience under his belt now Michel Gros has an excellent grasp of how to best transfer his terroir into the glass.

Burghound

"from a .41 ha holding in the climat of Les Verroilles. Here too there is a touch of wood toast lurking in the background of the wonderfully spicy, airy and cool array of mostly dark berry fruit and floral aromas. The tautly muscular and intensely mineral-driven bigger-bodied flavors possess innate power that carries over to the driving and exceptionally firm finale that is compact, serious and very much built-to-age. Excellent."

"The 2022 Richebourg Grand Cru is another new cuvรฉe added to the Domaine's portfolio due to the end of Colette Gros's lease agreement. This parcel is located in the lieu-dit of Les Vรฉrroilles, where there was originally a wall, parts of which remain. This 0.41-hectares is sandwiched between rows owned by A.F. Gros and Gros Frรจre & Soeur. Aged entirely in new oak, the refined bouquet gradually builds in the glass: mainly dark berry fruit, forest floor, hints of morels and light graphite aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins. This is a more elegant take on Richebourg. It is harmonious with a satin texture, a peacock's tail towards the finish, and a dash of white pepper on the aftertaste. This marks a very impressive debut." -Vinous
