E. Guigal (Chateau de Nalys) Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Grand Vin 2022

$8099

White Châteauneuf is rare, and Guigal's version from Château de Nalys is one of the very best. Guigal acquired this historic estate in 2017 and immediately turned it into a beacon for the appellation, drawing on prized parcels in La Crau, Bois Sénéchal, and Nalys itself. The Grand Vin Blanc is a co-fermented blend of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, and Clairette, aged in a mix of demi-muids and barrels (mostly older) to preserve aromatic lift. It is full-bodied yet focused, with a creamy texture cut by sneaky acidity and a long, mineral finish. Built to drink now or cellar for a decade-plus.

"The 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc unwinds with yellow apple, ripe pear, cedar and apricot elements. Showing a little more substance and weight compared to the Saintes Pierres de Nalys from the same vintage, the full-bodied 2022 Château de Nalys finishes with excellent persistence."

"The Guigal team have done much to resuscitate this estate, and this 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Grand Vin Blanc is indeed a great wine. Scents of ripe pears, pineapples and tangerines are accented by hints of pencil shavings on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is honeyed, silky and harmonious, concentrated, elegant and long. It's mainly Grenache and Roussanne, with close to 20% Clairette and tiny amounts of Picardin and Picpoul Blanc."

Wine Spectator

"Plush, spicy density marks this concentrated version, with crunchy nectarine and apple flavors set against toasty acacia and buttercream richness. A zesty mineral vein and spicy ginger detail cut through, while steely mineral notes firmly prop up the complex finish. Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Clairette and Picardan. Drink now through 2027."
