Emmanuel Rouget Savigny-les-Beaune 2023

$14499

Emmanuel Rouget inherited his vines and his technique from his uncle Henri Jayer, the most influential Burgundian winemaker of the 20th century. The Savigny is the more rustic, earthier counterpart to his Vosne wines, picking up the appellation's characteristic dark fruit and savory bite. Farmed without herbicides, destemmed in the Jayer style, and aged with a measured share of new oak. A serious bottle from a name usually associated with three- and four-figure prices.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2024 Savigny-lès-Beaune Village is paler in hue compared to Rouget's other wines. This feels rustic on the nose, a bit underripe after the Chorey-lès-Beaune, oddly as if there were stems in the mix. Dark fruit on the palate is quite potent, tea leaf mixed with mocha, it just lacks the freshness of the aforementioned cuvée. This left me a bit vexed." —Neal Martin
