The Central Coast's house beer, in the most literal sense: 805 is named for the area code that covers it. The area code gave them a platform to talk about their place. The beer itself is an easy, light blonde ale brewed in Paso Robles — no hop arms race, no barrel program, just something cold you can drink two of at a barbecue. Which is a funny thing to say about Firestone Walker, a brewery two brothers-in-law started in a shed on the family's vineyard back forty in 1996 with a brewhouse bought out of a Los Angeles junkyard, and which has had the same brewmaster, Matt Brynildson, since 2001. "Beer Before Glory" is their mantra, and 805 is the beer end of it: the one that isn't trying to impress anybody. Six 12oz bottles.
