Forest-Marie Champagne Premier Cru Brut Millesime 2012

$7499

Trigny. "Situated in a village that shares the same Massif de St. Thierry terroir as our long-time favorite, Chartogne-Taillet. Thierry Forest  makes forceful champagnes-particularly-notable is his preference for aging his wines much longer than is the norm before release. Almost half the grapes now come from the Premier Cru village of Éceuil. Fermentation is conducted with natural yeasts. 50/50 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, from the Écueil. this is an excellent successor to the much-lauded 2008. The 2012 is a worthy follow-on in a slightly bigger style."

More about Forest-Marie

Since 1746, Champagne Forest-Marié has quietly been crafting expressive and thoughtful champagnes from their small village of Trigny based in the Montagne de Reims. Here red grape varieties typically dominate and the family has approximately equal shares of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Soils are a blend of clay, limestone, and chalk depending on the vineyard, and the Forest-Marie’s carefully farm and individually vinify 86 parcels.

Hard work in the vineyards is needed when you have respect for the land and terroir. Pruning is done by hand and measures such as mulching are taken first and foremost to encourage biodiversity which leads to better water retention, strengthening of the roots and entire plant in general. After that, the terroir can express itself in the wines.
