Hugo Mendes Lisboa Pitau Branco 2024

Hugo Mendes is one of the most interesting young voices in Portuguese wine. He worked his way up from cellar hand to head winemaker at Quinta da Murta in Bucelas before going independent in 2019. His debut vintage in 2016 was famously funded through a pioneering crowdfunding campaign while he was still at Quinta da Murta. He focuses on Lisboa's overlooked white grapes: Arinto, Fernao Pires, Vital, with a touch of Alvarinho. Pitau Branco is his entry-level white, unoaked, low in alcohol, and built around the bright, Atlantic-driven freshness of vineyards within sight of the ocean. A great little house white at a price that lets you drink it nightly.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

"The white 2024 Pitau Branco, a range inspired by the old field blends, was produced with Arinto, Fernão Pires, Vital, Alvarinho and Viosinho grapes. It is aromatic and floral, clean and young, fresh and with moderate ripeness and only 11.5% alcohol and a lightish palate with notable acidity and shy flavors. This was bottled unoaked. 12,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2025." —Luis Gutiérrez
