Alto Adige makes some of Italy's finest Sauvignon Blanc, and Niedrist's is the version for people who usually find the grape too loud: nettle and citrus rather than gooseberry and passionfruit, over a hard stony spine. The family works out of Girlan, one of the villages of Eppan in South Tyrol, and grows this Sauvignon on the two soils that define the area — porphyry, the hard red volcanic rock of the valley slopes, and limestone. You can taste the split: porphyry gives the smoky, savory bite, limestone the tension and length. Ignaz Niedrist is a FIVI member, an independent grower who farms and bottles his own fruit, and the estate's whole argument is that a wine should tell you where it grew. This is Alpine white wine at heart — the mountains keep the nights cold, so the acidity holds even in a warm year. Serve it cool rather than icy.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

Perfect Pairings

Asparagus with brown butter, trout or char with herbs, fresh goat cheese, speck with rye bread, or a spring pea risotto.

Tasting Profile

Nettle, lime, white peach and elderflower, with a flinty, smoky edge in place of tropical fruit. Dry and medium-bodied, with bright Alpine acidity and a stony, faintly bitter finish that keeps it clean. Restrained, not showy.
