Jean-Luc Jamet Cote Rotie Pirate 2019

$13999

A rare tête de cuvée from a perfectionist Northern Rhône producer, the Pirate cuvée appears only in exceptional vintages—just the third vintage of this 500-bottle release. Centered on old vines from the legendary La Landonne hillside, it's whole-cluster fermented with native yeasts to capture the power and finesse of classic Côte-Rôtie Syrah. Dense, concentrated, and beautifully structured, this wine demands cellaring but rewards patient collectors with complexity that defines the region's elite.

More about Jean-Luc Jamet

The name Jamet is sacred ground for lovers of Côte-Rôtie. For decades, brothers Jean-Paul and Jean-Luc Jamet ran the famed domaine together—Jean-Paul in the cellar, Jean-Luc in the vines. It was Jean-Luc who shaped much of the domaine’s raw material, farming some of the region’s top slopes with extraordinary care.

When the brothers parted ways in 2013, Jean-Paul retained the Domaine Jamet name. But Jean-Luc kept a remarkable share of the family vineyards—including top parcels in Lancement, Chavaroche, and Le Plomb—and launched his own label, Jean-Luc Jamet, shortly after.

Some in the community frowned upon this break-up and regarded Jean-Luc as a bit of a renegade. Jean-Luc decided to lean hard into that and called his flagship Côte-Rôtie the “Pirate”, sourced from all his top sites.

Although Jean-Luc follows his brother's traditionalist philosophy, he does focus more on elegance and less on tannic extraction. The result is Côte Rotie, which is a little more approachable at a younger age.
