Joseph Colin Saint Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly 2024

This Saint-Aubin premier cru parcel sits just tens of meters from Le Montrachet, the most coveted dirt in white Burgundy. That's about as close as you can get to that address without paying for it. En Remilly is on the Puligny side of Saint-Aubin, where the village's most sought-after premier crus lie. It's also one of the rockiest sites in the appellation, so stony that replanting vines there is hard work. Joseph Colin's parcel sits on the plateau, and he describes the wine as capturing the brightness of the huge sky and sunlight you take in standing on the crest of the Montrachet. Joseph started working alongside his father Marc in 1993, at 19. After his older brother Pierre-Yves left in 2003, he ran Domaine Marc Colin with his two younger siblings, and in 2017 he took a little over six hectares to start his own domaine. The 2024 comes from sustainably farmed vines, and he has made this cuvée hands-off, with native yeast and no fining or filtering. If you want Chardonnay from the Puligny neighbourhood without paying for the Puligny name, this is one of the smartest bottles in his range.

"From both En Remilly and Les Cortons. A fresh and softly exotic nose features aromas of as citrus confit, passion fruit and white peach. There is excellent vibrancy to the delicious medium weight flavors that flash evident minerality before concluding in a clean, dry, linear and chiseled finish where a touch of lemon zest slowly emerges. This is excellent and worth your interest."

"The 2024 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru has a straightforward bouquet that needs more complexity and terroir expression—after all, this is En Remilly! The palate is where the action is: fresh and saline, plenty of vigour with a twist of sour lemon on the finish. Nice persistence in the mouth; this is another from Colin that just needs bottle age for the aromatics to open." —Neal Martin

"40-year-old vines planted on limestone. Cask sample. Green/gold in the glass. Richness and ripeness with plenty of chew on the palate. Full-bodied, fleshy style of St-Aubin."

Tasting Profile

Expect the classic Saint-Aubin premier cru profile: lemon, white peach and green apple over a stony, chalky minerality from this rocky hillside site. Typically medium-bodied and taut, with bright, racy acidity (think a leaner, more mineral Puligny-Montrachet), finishing dry, long and saline.
