Les Horees Coteaux Bourguignons Mon Poulain 2024

There is Gamay growing in Pommard, planted back in the 1940s, and Catharina Sadde farms it. That is the sort of detail that makes Coteaux Bourguignons, Burgundy's humble catch-all appellation, far more interesting than it has any right to be. Mon Poulain blends that Gamay, about 40% of the wine, with Pinot Noir from the Cote de Beaune, the two fermented separately: the Gamay whole-cluster, the Pinot half, both on wild yeast with no sulfur until after malolactic, then a year in used barrels. Sadde is a German-born chef who trained at some of Burgundy's most exacting domaines before launching her own, and she gives this bottle the same attention as her premier crus. The label is modest. Nothing else about it is.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

More about Les Horees

Catharina Sadde was not originally planning to become a winemaker. She was studying gastronomy while working in restaurants in her native Dresden, Germany when she got bit by the wine bug. She did an internship with Schafer-Frohlich and then Domaine Chevrot in Burgundy, where she decided this was the region she really wanted to focus on.

After completing her degree in viticulture she returned to Burgundy and proceeded to put together a resumé that would make any aspiring winemaker green with envy. She worked at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Drouhin, de Vogüé and Marquis D’Angerville. All of these domains were pioneers in biodynamic farming and Catharina was convinced that this was how she wanted to work.

Her most recent gig was working alongside Cecile Trembley, another extraordinary talent, and while doing so she was offered a small parcel of vines. This offer was followed by a few more and once they had acquired about 1.3, she and her husband Guilhem made the leap and started their own winery.

As mentioned, Catharina is a fanatic for natural, biodynamic farming. They do everything in the vineyard by hand, and for now by themselves too. They settled on the name “Les Horées” because it refers to ancient Greek celebrations during the changing of seasons. Everything Catharina and Guilhem due is focused on nature.
