Lisini Brunello di Montalcino 2021

$9299

Lisini's vines date to the 1930s–40s, tended for decades in large Slavonian oak casks that soften Brunello's natural power without erasing it. The 2021 offers graceful acidity and articulate tannins, suggesting early approachability alongside genuine aging potential. Traditional, savory Sangiovese from one of Montalcino's most historic estates. Arriving April 2026.

Antonio Galloni

96 points

"The expressive 2021 Brunello di Montalcino opens with an array of crushed violet and lavender tones before giving way to citrus-laced blackberries and cherries. Cool-toned and wickedly fresh, it possesses a solid core of mineral-infused wild berry fruits and blue and purple inner florals that arch throughout. Sweet tannins frame the finish beautifully as hints of balsamic spice and pomegranate linger incredibly long. The 2021 is a radiant beast in need of taming. It's hard to put this glass down." —Eric Guido

"The Lisini 2021 Brunello di Montalcino opens with pretty fruit, led by a touch of candied cherry that sits front and center, followed by lifted aromas of wild plum, sweet earth and pressed blue flower. I like the aromatic intensity and snappy, fruit-forward personality of this wine, which immediately draws you in. While the attack is generous and expressive, there is clear power and structure on the back end that give the wine depth and shape." —Monica Larner

More about Lisini

This old-school property sits at the southwest corner of the Montalcino zone, at about 350 meters above sea, and the vineyards face south towards Maremma and the coast. This situation provides warm, dry breezes that allow them to farm their vines and olive trees with both organic and sustainable practices. The 20 hectares of vines are entirely Sangiovese and made up of massale selections of the original plantings from 1930.

All fermentations are done in glass-lined cement tanks and aging is exclusively in large, Slavonian oak casks. Current winemaker Filippo Paoletti learned his craft from the former winemaker Franco Bernabei (of Fontodi and Felsina) as well as the Sangiovese master Giulio Gambelli (Soldera, Biondi Santi and of course Montevertine) and his style reflects their influence. The focus is on the elegance and transparency of Tuscany’s native variety; silky red fruits, earth and minerals always shine through.
