A single malt finished in Chardonnay barrels, which is rarer than it sounds. Loch Lomond puts out one of these every year for The Open, and this is the Royal Troon bottling: master blender Michael Henry married four different malts, matured them first in American oak, then moved the whole thing into first-fill Chardonnay wine barrels. Those casks do exactly what you'd hope, bringing blossom honey, lemon and green apple while lifting the orchard-fruit character that Loch Lomond's odd straight-necked pot stills already produce. A whisper of smoke and a little cinnamon spice on the finish keep it from collapsing into a fruit salad. It's bottled at 46%, with no coloring and no chill filtration, which is more integrity than a commemorative golf bottle strictly requires. Neat, or with a drop of water. You don't have to care about golf to enjoy it.
