Lorenzo Accomasso Barolo Annunziata Riserva 2017

$32499

Lorenzo Accomasso is one of Barolo's last true legends, a fiercely traditional grower in La Morra working barely three hectares with a philosophy that hasn't budged in decades: very low yields, long fermentations, and years of aging in big old casks, market trends be damned. His wines are almost unknown to the broader Barolo world, but those who know them prize them as some of the purest expressions of village and vineyard you can find. This Riserva bottling, 100% Nebbiolo from the Annunziata district, sees extended aging before release. Mature, classical Barolo from a true artisan, and increasingly impossible to find. This is the 2017.

More about Lorenzo Accomasso

Accomasso has been making wine for longer than just about anyone anywhere, and he says that he hasn't changed a thing in his production since he started out in the 1950s.

Lorenzo Accomasso has 3 hectares in La Morra, including Rocche and Rochette. He is a peer and contemporary of Bartolo Mascarello and shares much of the same philosophy and approach to winemaking that Bartolo did. In fact he is mentor and friend to many of the top young producers in Barolo today.

The wines are powerful and backwards, but with a bit of patience and maybe a bit of squinting, you can make out the elegance and finesse of his home village La Morra.
