Maccario Dringenberg Rossese di Dolceacqua 2023

Liguria barely makes enough wine to export, which is why almost nobody has tasted Rossese di Dolceacqua. The vineyards are steep, the plots are tiny, and most of what gets made is drunk on the spot by people on holiday on the Italian Riviera. Giovanna Maccario, working with her husband Goetz Dringenberg in San Biagio della Cima, is the reference point for the appellation. She farms four hectares in small parcels, each with its own terroir, and bottles them separately because she believes the differences matter. This one comes off vines planted in the late 1800s and ferments spontaneously in stainless steel: a perfumed, high-toned red with surprising tension, the Riviera's answer to a good cru Beaujolais.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

More about Maccario Dringenberg

You've heard of Liguria: the land of fabulous beaches, gorgeous seaside towns, and pesto. you're probably also familiar with its wines, especially if you've visited the area. But, like Corsica or the Jura, its wines were barely known to Americans (or any other non-Italians for that matter) until just a couple of decades ago. This is despite delicious indigenous grape varieties and unique and varied terroirs. Liguria is a land for wine adventure.

There is perhaps no better adventure guide than Giovanna Dringenberg. Just when Liguria was starting to glimmer on people’s wine radars, she was starting to take Ligurian wine production in a new and adventurous direction.

She was blessed with a very special inheritance: some of the oldest vines in all of Italy (planted in the 1890s!) She noticed that her holdings, though small, were spread among three distinct soil types. She decided to produce three different single-vineyard wines.

Perfect Pairings

Rabbit alla ligure, grilled fish, pesto pasta, or an anchovy-forward antipasto. Try it slightly chilled with a Tuesday roast chicken.

Tasting Profile

Light to medium bodied and dry, with dark cherry, herbs and spice, and a mineral edge. High acidity and fine tannins make it fresh and lifted.
