Nicolas Faure Aloxe Corton Rouge 2024

$28999

Nicolas Faure trained in serious company, with stints at Domaine de la Romanee-Conti and Prieure-Roch before launching his own micro-domaine, which took shape around 2014. Based in Meuilley in the Hautes Cotes, he farms a tiny vineyard spread across prestigious appellations, working with rare exacting standards. He picked up his parcel in Aloxe-Corton in 2015, at the northern end of the Cote de Beaune where Pinot Noir turns firm and earthy. Production is minuscule, so these are hard to find. The 2024 will reward a few years in the cellar; decant if you open it young.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2024 Aloxe-Corton Village has a well-defined nose, the 100% whole cluster neatly integrated, imbuing the aromatics with a light pepperiness. The palate is well balanced with a healthy dash of black pepper, a fine bead of acidity, lighter than the 2023 last year with an elegant open-knit finish. Fine." —Neal Martin

More about Nicolas Faure

If you are one of the lucky few who can secure a visit with Nicolas Faure in his cellar outside Nuits-St-Georges, watch your head! Yes, it is a very small cellar, really just a garage. But inside that garage is some of the most exciting wine happening in Burgundy.

Nicolas is a farmer. That sounds cliché, but here it is absolutely the truth. His day job is as vineyard manager for his equally talented wife, Amelie Berthaut of Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet. Previously he worked vineyards at Prieur-Roche and Domaine de la Romanée Contí.

His own domaine is a small collection of parcels that totals just 1 hectare, allowing him to farm them all by himself the way he wants to.

He is not certified organic or biodynamic because he does not want to have to spray copper a specific number of times (among other regulations). But everything he does in the vineyard and the cellar is to make sure the terroir comes through.

Nicolas is very thoughtful, very curious and ultimately very deliberate. Again, he does everything himself so that he has total control of the process. These wines are his expressions of the vineyard, nothing and no one else is involved.
