Pierre Boisson Meursault 2016

$13499

Pierre Boisson is one of our very favorite producers of Meursault, a name we'd put in the small handful at the very top of the village. Part of what defines the house style is a remarkable connection: Pierre Boisson is school-age friends with Raphaël Coche of Coche-Dury, and the two often compare winemaking notes. You can taste the kinship — the same kind of taut, finely worked Meursault that put Coche on the map, but in Boisson's own voice. He's a true specialist, restrained with new oak and always letting the village's character lead. The 2016 is a balanced, classic vintage now stepping into its prime drinking window.

More about Pierre Boisson

Pierre and Anne Boisson are very thoughtful winegrowers. They own ancient vines in and around Meursault. The wines are pure, elegant and racy. Pierre and Anne have slowly been changing the winemaking and cellar techniques. They harvest earlier, age longer and use less new oak. The Boissons have embraced vinifying their single vineyard Bourgogne vineyards because they feel each parcel has something unique to say. Papa Bernard Boisson used to blend these together and sell it all as Bourgogne Blanc.

15+ years ago Pierre went back to the methods of his grandfather's time, plus new techniques. It's a story we see at many domaines; the best of the old mixed with the best of the new.

We visited Meursault in 2023 to taste with their neighbor Jean-Philippe Fichet and spent some time with Anne Boisson. She works part time in a little wine store across the street from Fichet. We spent an hour tasting and talking about her favorite winegrowers in the region.

Pierre and Anne make their wines separately in the same cuverie but help one another on the farming. The style of the wines are more similar than different from each other, the wines are very complex, precise and transparent, they reflect the terroirs of Meursault. Very little new oak is used, 30% at most and many wines see no new oak.
