Pierre Morey Bourgogne Cote d'Or Pinot Noir 2023

$5299

Pierre Morey is celebrated as one of the great white winemakers of Burgundy, but the domaine farms a small parcel of Pinot Noir too, and the same precision applies. From his two decades (1988-2008) at the helm of Domaine Leflaive, where he steered both that estate and his own to biodynamics well ahead of the curve, Pierre passed the reins to his daughter Anne, who is now fully in charge. Across the lineup, the wines differ mostly by percentage of new oak; here, on a regional Cote d'Or red, restraint and energy do the talking. A lithe, transparent introduction to the family style in a Pinot Noir frame.

"A very fresh and bright nose of expressive red pinot fruit aromas cut with earth nuances leads to delicious and relatively dense, certainly in the context of the vintage, flavours display reasonable length on the bitter chocolate-inflected finish where a touch of rusticity slowly emerges."

More about Pierre Morey

Pierre Morey is a towering figure in Meursault. Along with his own prime vineyards he was also the winemaker at Domaine Leflaive in the 1980's and early '90's. He was one of the first growers in the region to fully embrace biodynamic farming, converting both Leflaive and his own domaine and reaching full certification by 1997. Now his daughter, Anne Morey, has taken the helm and is continuing on the path he started. She is a very intelligent, passionate and gracious person and her talents in the vineyard and cellar are exceptional.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken with herbs, mushroom risotto, charcuterie boards, or a simple seared duck breast.

Tasting Profile

Light to medium-bodied and energetic, with red cherry, cranberry, a whisper of forest floor, and crunchy acidity. Fine-grained tannins; built for early drinking but with the bones to hold a few years.
