Rall Wines White 2024

$2699 $3199

Composed of 71% Chenin Blanc, 26% Verdelho, and 3% Viognier, this is the wine that started it all for Rall back in 2008. Now in its 16th vintage and marking 17 years of production, it remains the true cornerstone and main focus of everything they do. No other wine in the portfolio has achieved this level of year-on-year consistency, and the spectacular 2024 vintage is no exception

The grapes are  primarily sourced from the ancient granitic soils of the Paardeberg, now enhanced by a significant portion of fruit from the oldest vineyard we work with, planted back in 1969. All components were fermented naturally and matured separately for 10 months in a combination of 2,000-liter foudres, seasoned French oak barrels, concrete eggs, and amphorae, before being blended and bottled with minimal filtration.

"The 2024 White, Donovan Rall's Chenin-led blend aged in concrete, foudre and 500-litre barrels, has a taut and crisp, citrus peel and vervain-scented bouquet. The palate is very well balanced with a lightly spiced, pithy entry. Not quite as complex as the preceding vintage, but there is fine weight with an oily finish. Drink over the next decade." —Neal Martin

"From the general Coastal Region, the Rall 2024 White is sourced mainly from Swartland with a portion from Stellenbosch and is a blend of 69% Chenin Blanc, 29% Verdelho and 2% Viognier. Linear and fresh, it shows clarity and drive with lovely texture and mouthfeel. Verdelho arrived with naturally high acidity and brings tension and balance, while the Chenin Blanc provides texture and structure. Fermentation and aging take place in foudre, small barrels and concrete, with each vineyard matched to a vessel according to whether the fruit shows more of a reductive or oxidative character. The granite and sandstone-derived soils of the Western Cape contribute both salinity and precision." —Monica Larner
