Robert Parker

"The current release of the NV Estate Brut is made up mainly of fruit from the 2015 vintage. It is a blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir and was made with about ten grams per liter dosage. Disgorged in October of 2018, it has a fresh, open nose with pure fruit expression: crushed apples, pears and lemon peel mingle with touches of stone, flowers and toast. The medium-bodied palate offers a lovely dichotomy of toasty fruits with uplifted citrusy, minerally accents with a finely beaded mousse, and it finishes long and ultra fresh." —Robert Parker

"I would happily drink this wine every day if there weren’t so many other wines in the world to taste. Its wonderful play of creamy yet kinetic textures, the custardy, limey flavours, and its impeccable focus all add up to one of the best ways possible to greet 6pm after a long work day. Roederer Estate was, in my opinion, the first California sparkling producer to achieve complexity in its wines – especially in the estate’s prestige cuvée, L’Ermitage. The Brut (sold as Quartet in the UK) is generally 60% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir." —43374

"Delicate and svelte, with apple puff pastry and floral citrus flavors accented by snappy mineral and fresh ginger notes."

Wine Enthusiast

"An enticing, toasty, nutty aroma leads to crisp and complex flavors in this medium-bodied wine that is braced by good acidity and a fine bead of bubbles. Subtle, mature notes complement the elegant texture."

More about

We don’t throw around the term “California’s best sparkling wine” lightly, but Roederer Estate’s L’Ermitage Brut deserves to be in contention for the title, vintage after vintage. It’s the prestige cuvée from Roederer’s Mendocino outpost, a serious project from the Champagne house behind Cristal, and it offers one of the clearest examples of how traditional Champagne savoir-faire can thrive on American soil.

Whereas many French maisons treat their U.S. projects as branding exercises, Roederer built something real in Anderson Valley, farming their own vines (biodynamically, no less), and focusing on wines of depth and finesse rather than flash. The cool climate of Anderson Valley gives their sparkling wines the bright acidity and slow ripening needed for elegance and age-worthiness—more Champagne-like than anything from Napa or Sonoma.

And L’Ermitage isn’t just estate-grown—it’s vintage-dated and aged over five years on lees, like true Champagne.
