Gewürztraminer in what is very likely its homeland — the village of Tramin sits just down the road from these vineyards, and the grape almost certainly takes its name from it. Sanct Valentin is the top selection line at St. Michael-Eppan, the cooperative that has been working the slopes around Appiano since 1907, and this bottling draws on hand-picked parcels in Appiano and Caldaro between 300 and 500 meters, southeast-facing, on loamy limestone gravel. The grapes get a short maceration on the skins for aromatic lift, then a gentle press and fermentation in stainless steel, which keeps that famous perfume clean and unpadded by oak. Alpine nights are what make the difference here — they hold acidity in a grape that loses it easily, so the wine reads as broad and exotic rather than heavy. Serve it properly cold and pour it into a real glass; this is one of the loudest, most aromatic whites in the shop.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

Built for Thai green curry, Sichuan mapo tofu, smoked speck with rye bread, roast pork with apples, or a ripe Munster.

Tasting Profile

Lychee, rose petal, ginger and candied orange peel, all turned up. The palate is full and broad with a whisper of sweetness through the middle, but it finishes dry and spicy rather than sugary. Modest acidity, generous body, long perfumed finish.
