Seresin Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2023

$2499

Seresin makes the Sauvignon Blanc that converts people who think they don't like Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Filmmaker Michael Seresin founded the estate in 1992 and has farmed biodynamically since the early days — today it's the largest Demeter-certified property in the region. The fruit is hand-harvested across seven parcels, wild-fermented, and roughly a third of the wine sees neutral French oak. A splash of Semillon adds a leafy, savory edge. The result is a Sauvignon Blanc with texture and grip rather than the usual passionfruit pyrotechnics — more Loire in spirit than Cloudy Bay.

Antonio Galloni

90 points

"Wild fermentation, a little bit of barrel-aging on lees and a 10% addition of Sémillon in the blend make the 2023 Sauvignon Blanc far from your stereotypical Marlborough style. This wine plays on its clarity, texture and freshness. It's aromatically subtle, with green notes meeting nectarine and blackcurrant. While the region's natural freshness abounds, the wine retains a round shape and natural curve before being sewn up by a thread of acidity. There are layers of interest here that will keep you coming back." —Rebecca Gibb MW

Robert Parker

87 points

"The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc leads with green capsicum and sweet pea, green apple, oxalis and lemongrass. It's a little bitter, but this does give it a complexing edge on the palate, which serves to further emphasize the phenolic structure. 12.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap." —Erin Larkin

Pale gold. White passionfruit, lemon balm, white peach and a leafy, herbal lift. The palate is layered and textural with slate-like acidity and a long, dry finish.
