This is the vineyard that started the Stags Leap District. Nathan Fay planted Cabernet Sauvignon here in 1961, when the neighbors were still growing prunes and walnuts, and it was a taste of his homemade wine that convinced Warren Winiarski this was the right ground to plant next door. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars bought FAY from him in 1986 and has bottled it on its own since the 1990 vintage. Sitting beneath the volcanic Stags Leap Palisades, FAY has always been the softer, redder-fruited half of the estate — perfumed and silky where the neighboring blocks lean structural. The 2022 is entirely Cabernet Sauvignon drawn from six blocks and aged twenty months in new French oak, after a season that threw hail at bloom, a mid-April frost and a nine-day heat wave right at harvest, which is why the fruit reads ripe and the acids gentle. Lovely now with a decant, and built to hold and improve for a decade or more.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

It seemed rather muted on the nose, only slowly opening to reveal cherry and blueberry fruit. Tasting Profile

Boysenberry, black cherry and raspberry with floral spice and a hint of cigar box. Full-bodied and silky, with polished, persistent tannins and softer acidity. Long dark-fruit finish; give it an hour in a decanter.
