The most recognized Spanish brandy in the world, and it earns that on style rather than swagger: solera-aged in American oak, built on white wine from the Penedes hills outside Barcelona. The Torres family started distilling there in 1928, when Juan Torres put Penedes grape spirit into the traditional solera system — barrels of older brandy continuously refreshed by younger, so every bottle carries a bit of everything that came before. His son Juan Torres Casals went further, aging brandy made from the best white wines of Penedes in oak barrels; the cellars were bombed in 1939 and rebuilt before Torres 10 ever reached a shelf. What lands in the glass is dark topaz, sweetly spiced with cinnamon and vanilla, and long. For anyone who thinks good brandy has to mean a Cognac budget, this is the bottle that quietly argues otherwise.
