Weingut Spreitzer Rheingau Riesling Oestricher Lenchen Kabinett 2024

$2199

Kabinett is Germany's best trick: a wine this light has no business being this vivid. The Lenchen is the Spreitzers' home vineyard in Oestrich, low-lying and deep-soiled near the Rhine, and it gives grapes long hang time and serious ripe extract. Andreas and Bernd pick for freshness, ferment gently, and leave just enough residual sugar to balance the very high acidity rather than to sweeten anything. The wine that comes out is featherlight and packed with flavor, low in alcohol, and impossible to get tired of. Drink it now with something spicy, or forget a bottle in the cellar and be pleasantly surprised in a decade.

"The 2024 Riesling Oestricher Lenchen Kabinett has a touch of woodruff on the nose before lemon kicks in. The palate is so beautifully light and bright. This has found its groove at around 45 g/L of residual sugar set against 8 g/L of acidity."

More about Weingut Spreitzer

Brothers Andreas and Bernd Spreitzer have embraced their wealth of resources to produce Rheingau Rieslings of incredible balance, a feat they liken to walking a tightrope. With a generational total of 379 years making wine, the Sprietzers have had plenty of practice.

Even with all the practice, great balance requires great vineyards. The Spreitzers own prime real estate throughout their sub-region of Oestrich, including the Lenchen vineyard and its most famous parcel, Eiserberg. The secret weapon of Lenchen is its series of underground streams, guaranteeing balance even in the hottest years, an asset in this age of climate change.

With these great terroirs and that generations-long attention to balance, the Spreitzer’s achieve some of the most delectable wines in the entire Rheingau, at once beautifully delicate and opulently concentrated.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Sichuan or Thai takeout, spicy pork sausages, or a crab salad with chili.

Tasting Profile

Light-bodied and off-dry, with peach, citrus and orchard fruit. High acidity keeps it fresh; the sweetness reads as balance, not sugar.
